Pat Benatar Live in NH

Finishing up with the series of concert videos here.  Pat Benatar was actually the second act to go on for the concert with Loverboy and Journey.  There was quite a long intermission to change the stage set after Loverboy and before Pat Benatar, yet oddly enough, she did not have an elaborate stage set at all.  Nope -- just Pat and her husband Neil Giraldo (on guitar) as the main focus.  When she came out on stage, it was quite thrilling.  Such a tiny lady with a huge voice -- and so much mystique and rock and roll power!  I remember seeing an interview with her, and the interviewer asked, "So how can we be as cool as you?"  She said, "it's all in the pointing," and proceeded to demonstrate her famous awesomely cool pointing technique.  I believe she said that it "makes you look tough."  Works for me!  I'm going to practice that now.  In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these videos.  I am so glad I saw her -- finally!

Journey Live in NH

Well, somehow time has escaped me again, and I am ashamed that it has been a month since I went to see Journey, Loverboy, and Pat Benatar in Manchester, NH.  I took several short videos with my Blackberry but had trouble uploading them directly from my computer -- so I added them to my YouTube channel.  I know they aren't the clearest or the best quality, but I think they certainly capture the excitement and general essence of the concert.  I can't tell you how blown away I was when Journey took the stage.  They basically exploded onto the stage with "Anyway You Want It."  I honestly felt like I was going to pop out of my seat - which I did!  I stood for their whole set, just mesmerized in a Journey trance.  The new lead singer is so full of energy, and the veteran band members are nothing short of amazing.  I hope you enjoy the videos!

Loverboy Live!

So -- it has again been much too long since my last post.  I apologize and have something special to post now!  Last night, I went to hear Journey, Pat Benatar, and Loverboy.  I have about 8 videos total, so here is the one of Loverboy's "Turn Me Loose."  I thought I had recorded "Working for the Weekend," but it didn't record.  Oh well.  It was really my first try at recording anything in length with the Blackberry.  It was a GREAT show.  Go see them if you can!

Turn Me Loose

For some reason, I've had "Turn Me Loose" by Loverboy playing through my mind over and over today.  I have no idea where that came from.  Honestly, I don't think I've heard this song in ages--certainly not on the radio.  When I looked at some song facts this evening, I found out that the song came out in 1980.  Wow!  I thought it was a bit later (maybe '82 or so), but nope.  It was 1980 on the nose.  The song's lyrics are pretty clear from my interpretation, although I read some crazy stuff about S & M overtones.  I think that is ridiculous.  I thought it was absurd when I first read it, and then I watched the video.  I was floored looking at Mike Reno--he was so young in this video.  So, for those who think there is an alternate interpretation, well, I disagree.  I think that is silly.  Reno even said it was a song written as a "put-down" to a girl.  Seems pretty clear.  He wants his freedom, he wants to call the shots, he does not want to be kept on a tight leash--so for heaven's sake, turn him loose!  I see lots of couples where either the guy or the girl has total control, and that's not good.  Doesn't sound from the lyrics like Reno wanted something balanced and magical, but he just had had enough---he's got to do it his way---or no way at all.

So, I hope you enjoy this vintage video.  Awesome bass guitar in the beginning.  I found a cover of this song from 2007 by an Australian group called "Young Divas," but, well...yeah, I didn't care for it.  So, here is the original "Turn Me Loose," along with a recent performance from 2006.  Turn yourself loose and crank it up!

Lovin' Every Minute of It

I had completely forgotten about this song by Loverboy, and now all I can do is giggle. I seem to remember the chorus but hadn't paid much attention to the lyrics, which is often the case when I think about songs from the 80s. Often times, the chorus is so catchy - and it's all you remember. That's okay with this song, because the chorus really says it all. I took a look at the lyrics, and there are a couple of references to motors starting and rockets launching, so you get the picture. All in all, it's a fun song. Definitely kicks into overdrive and gets you going.

The video is most certainly a snapshot of the 80s in all its glory. Can you believe there is a telephone ringing in this video? A corded telephone, nonetheless. Wow. It seems like a million years ago that we were talking on telephones with cords - and even a real bell inside the phone. Anyone notice that the buttons actually made different pitches when you pushed them? I think that was the ultimate "cool" factor for those phones in the eyes of band geeks such as myself.

So, "Lovin' Every Minute of It" is really a fun tune that you can crank up when you are feeling like having a good laugh or just feeling kind of silly - or raunchy. Obviously, the lyrics have some funny metaphors, but there is no deep or hidden meaning. They were just lovin' every minute of writing this. I enjoy Loverboy's music, and this tune was a pleasant surprise from the time capsule. I have to say that "Working for the Weekend" is not only my favorite Loverboy song, but one of my favorite songs in general. I'm throwing the video into this post as well because I can't resist. "You want a piece of my heart? You better start from the start? You wanna be in the show? Come on baby, let's go!!!!"

Weekend!

Happy weekend to everyone.  Thank goodness.  Everybody's working for the weekend most definitely - at least in Becky's world.  I am a bit behind with the song of the day, but I just added four more great tunes to the mp3 player.  I think today's song should definitely be Loverboy's "Working for the Weekend."  Nothing is more perfect to kick off the weekend than this tune.  Check it out over on my mp3 player - it's #20.  Enjoy!
